Non-Toxic Cookware

Many popular pans use PTFE or other PFAS-based nonstick coatings. Several U.S. states now restrict PFAS in cookware. These guides compare materials that do not rely on those coatings.

Common materials

  • Stainless steel: lasts for decades and is easy to clean, but food can stick without enough heat and oil.
  • Cast iron: naturally nonstick when seasoned, very durable, but heavy.
  • Carbon steel: lighter than cast iron with similar seasoning benefits.
  • Ceramic coated: PFAS-free coating that releases food well, but usually wears faster.
